UOlivet loses at Saint Mary’s, 65-57

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Olivet women's basketball team was on the losing end of a 65-57 final to Saint Mary's (Ind.) College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest today at the Angela Athletic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first quarter, the Belles led by as many as 10 points, 15-5, at the 3:41 mark. The Comets closed the gap to six points, 18-12, before Saint Mary's made two free throws for a 20-12 lead to begin the second period. In the second quarter, the Belles stretched their advantage to as many as 17 points on two occasions. Olivet came back to trail by 11 points, 37-26, at halftime.
- In the third quarter, the Comets cut their deficit down to as few as seven points, 40-33, with 3:17 showing on the clock. Saint Mary's held an eight-point lead, 45-37, to start the final quarter. The closest Olivet got in the fourth quarter was six points.
FOR THE COMETS
- Senior Lily Connelly recorded a double-double with team-highs in points (19) and rebounds (10). She also had three assists and two steals.
- Sophomore Anna Honnen scored nine points.
- Junior Kinsley Hatfield and sophomore Kaylee Bush each had eight points.
- Sophomore Christina Malackanich grabbed nine rebounds.
- Senior Clara Shoales netted seven points and blocked two shots.
UP NEXT
- The Comets have their bye on Saturday and are back in action next Wednesday, February 19, when they host Trine (Ind.) University at 6 p.m. The game is a part of a doubleheader at the Cutler Event Center. The Olivet men play Hope College after the women at approximately 8 p.m.
