UOlivet stung by Kalamazoo, 70-59

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The University of Olivet women's basketball team was defeated by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Kalamazoo College, 70-59, today at the Anderson Athletic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Comets took an early four-point lead, 8-4. The Hornets answered with 6-2 run over the next two minutes and 27 seconds to take a 13-10 lead. Olivet made the last basket of the quarter to trail by one point, 13-12, to start the second period.
- Kalamazoo scored the first six points of the second quarter to increase its lead to seven points. The Comets countered with a 5-0 spurt to trim their deficit down to two points, 19-17. An 8-2 Hornet run gave them a 27-19 lead. Sophomores Madalynn Terry and Anna Honnen drained back-to-back three-pointers to make the score, 27-25. Kalamazoo ended the quarter on another 8-2 burst to lead 35-27 at the intermission.
- In the third quarter, the Hornets extended their lead to as many as 10 points on three occasions. After the third time at 48-38 with 3:01 showing on the clock, Olivet went on a 7-0 run to be down by only three points. Kalamazoo netted the final three points of the quarter for a 51-45 to begin the final frame.
- The Hornets outscored the Comets, 19-14, in the fourth quarter for the 11-point win.
FOR THE COMETS
- Sophomore Christina Malackanich posted a double-double with a team-high 18 points and 11 rebounds.
- Senior Lily Connelly added 14 points to go along with six assists. With six helpers, she moved into third all-time in UOlivet history with 292 assists.
- Senior Clara Shoales contributed 12 points and eight rebounds.
- Honnen added eight points.
