UOlivet downed at Calvin, 73-49

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The University of Olivet women's basketball team was defeated by Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) foe Calvin University, 73-49, this afternoon at Van Noord Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights led 16-7 at the end of the first quarter before extending their lead to 15 points, 26-11, with 5:55 left until halftime. Olivet used a 12-3 run to trim its deficit down to six points, 29-23, at the 2:36 mark. During the run, sophomore Christina Malackanich scored eight points. The teams traded baskets for another six-point differential. Calvin scored the final four points of the quarter to hold a 35-25 lead at halftime.
- Olivet made the first basket of the third quarter. The Knights responded with back-to-back three-pointers, pushing their lead to 14 points. The Comets closed the gap to nine points two more times but did not get any closer for the rest of the game.
FOR THE COMETS
- Sophomores Kaylee Bush and Anna Honnen each scored 11 points.
- Senior Lily Connelly added 10 points as well as six rebounds and seven assists.
- Malackanich grabbed a team-leading eight rebounds.
UP NEXT
- Olivet is on the road next week to play the top two teams in the MIAA. On Wednesday, the Comets play at Trine (Ind.) University, starting at 7 p.m., and on Saturday, they face Hope College at 3 p.m.
