UOlivet tripped up in overtime at Denison, 73-70

DENISON, Ohio – The University of Olivet women's basketball team suffered a 73-70 overtime loss to non-conference foe Denison (Ohio) University this afternoon at Livingston Gymnasium.
THE BASICS
- Final Score: Denison 73, Olivet 70 (OT)

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Big Red led by as many as 13 points on two occasions in the first quarter. Olivet made the last basket of the period to trail 23-12 to start the second quarter. The Comets began the second stanza with an 11-5 run to make the score 28-23. Denison answered with a 12-6 run to stretch its lead back to double digits, 40-29. A 6-0 Olivet run made the score 40-35 at halftime.
- The run continued into the third quarter, as the Comets scored the first six points to take their first lead since early in the game. The Big Red battled back and took a six-point lead, 47-41, at the 5:07 mark. Denison held the lead until back-to-back three-pointers by sophomore Kaylee Bush and senior Lily Connelly made the score 54-53 at the end of the quarter.
- The fourth quarter was back-and-forth, as neither team led by more than three points. Bush split two free throws with 19 seconds left to put Olivet up by two points, 66-64. Denison came back and made a layup to tie the score with 7.8 seconds left. Following a timeout, the Comets advanced the ball to the front court but were not able to get a shot off to force overtime.
- The Big Red scored the first four points of the extra session. Olivet closed the gap to a single point but never was able to take the lead.
FOR THE COMETS
- Connelly finished with a game-high 24 points, 16 rebounds, six assists and five steals. With the six assists and five steals, she moved up to No. 6 and No. 5 on the UOlivet career list with 233 assists and 137 steals.
- Sophomore Christina Malackanich also posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
- Senior Clara Shoales contributed 12 points and three assists.
