UOlivet stumbles at Alma, 62-51

ALMA, Mich. – The University of Olivet women's basketball team let a halftime lead slip away, as Alma College rallied to beat the Comets, 62-51, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest today at the Art Smith Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first quarter was back and forth, as there were four lead changes. Olivet had the largest lead for either team at 15-10 with 1:48 left. The Scots made the last basket of the quarter to trail by three, 15-12, to start the second quarter.
- The Comets stretched their lead to seven points, 29-22, with 1:03 remaining until halftime. Alma answered with a basket before senior Lily Connelly made a layup to put Olivet back ahead by seven points, 31-24, at the intermission.
- To start the third quarter, Olivet scored four of the first six points to take its largest lead of the game, 35-26. The Scots fought all the way back with a 13-2 run to take a 39-37 lead with 3:39 remaining. After Olivet leveled the score, Alma made a corner three-pointer to go up 42-39. Connelly responded with a triple to tie the game at the end of the third stanza.
- On their first possession of the fourth quarter, the Scots banked in a three-pointer for a 45-42 lead. Connelly drained two free throws to close the gap to a point. Alma scored three straight points to go up by four points, 48-44. Another Connelly layup made the score 48-46. The Scots netted nine consecutive points to gain their largest lead of the game, 57-46. A three-pointer by junior Kinsley Hatfield was Olivet's final points of the game.
FOR THE COMETS
- Connelly led all players with 22 points and seven assists.
- Sophomore Christina Malackanich posted a double-double with 11 points and team-best 11 rebounds. She also had three helpers.
- Hatfield added nine points.
UP NEXT
- The Comets are back in action next Monday, December 16, when they travel to play Adrian College. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. from the Merrilat Sports and Fitness Center.
