Connelly named MIAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week
HUDSONVILLE, Mich. -- Senior Lily Connelly from The University of Olivet has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
Connelly scored a team-high 26 points, to help Olivet defeat Bluffton (Ohio) University, 79-78, in its season-opener. She had the Comets' final seven points, including a half-court shot at the buzzer, to cap a come-from-behind win, as they trailed by 12 points with 4:09 left in the game. Connelly connected on 9-of-12 baskets and 7-of-10 free throws for her 26 points. She also recorded a game-high six assists and four steals.
"Lily is more than deserving of this honor," said Olivet head coach Peter Sabiiti. "I am grateful with how she played against Bluffton. Lily also does a lot for our program off the court. So, all of that led to this incredible honor as well as the recognition everywhere for the buzzer beater."
Olivet returns to action tomorrow when it travels to play Franklin (Ind.) College. Tip-off from the Spurlock Center is set for 7 p.m.
