Women’s basketball team tripped up on the road at Saint Mary’s
NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Olivet College women’s basketball team was on the losing end of a 72-62 final score to Saint Mary’s (Ind.) College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest this evening at the Angela Athletic Center.

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Olivet College women's basketball team was on the losing end of a 72-62 final score to Saint Mary's (Ind.) College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest this evening at the Angela Athletic Center.

- The Belles led by eight points, 13-5, at the 2:13 mark of the first quarter. Olivet scored the last four points of the quarter, including a buzzer-beating jumper by sophomore Clara Shoales, to cut its deficit in half.
- The Comets fought back in the second quarter and took their first lead of the game, 21-20, when junior Lilly Connelly banked-in a three-pointer. Freshman Megan Mauney made a layup to give Olivet its largest lead of the quarter, 23-20. Saint Mary's scored 13 of the final 18 points of the period for a 33-28 advantage at halftime.
- The Belles extended their lead to 15 points, 49-34, at the 4:28 mark of the third quarter. The Comets answered with a 10-0 run to close the gap to five points. A Saint Mary's three-pointer and an Olivet free throw created a 52-45 score at the end of the third stanza. The Comets closed the gap to seven points on two occasions in the fourth quarter but would not get any closer.
- Connelly finished the game with 15 points and four assists.
- Freshman Kinsey Hatfield tallied 14 points.
- Senior Rachel Swartz and Mauney were next with nine and eight points, respectively.
- Mauney grabbed a team-leading eight rebounds.
- Four starters scored in double digits.
- Julia Schutz and Ellie Deardorff led the way with 19 points apiece.
- Athena Samson had 17 points to go along with a game-best 14 rebounds.
- Maddie Rzepka added 11 points.
- Olivet welcomes Alma College to the Cutler Event Center for the first game of a basketball doubleheader, beginning at 1 p.m. After the women's game, the Comet also play Alma at approximately 3 p.m.
