Women’s basketball team beats Wooster, 60-35
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women’s basketball team closed out the non-conference and 2022 portion of its schedule with a 60-35 win over College of Wooster (Ohio) this afternoon at the Cutler Event Center.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's basketball team closed out the non-conference and 2022 portion of its schedule with a 60-35 win over College of Wooster (Ohio) this afternoon at the Cutler Event Center.

- In the first quarter, the Comets led by four points, 9-5, at the 4:21 mark. Olivet scored eight straight points to gain its largest lead of the quarter, 17-5. A free throw for Wooster made the score 17-6 to start the second period.
- The Comets kept the defensive pressure and led by 25 points, 39-14, at halftime.
- Olivet stretched its advantage to 31 points, 47-16, at the 5:15 mark of the third quarter. The Fighting Scots battled back to cut their deficit down to 16 points, 49-33, at the end of the quarter.
- The Comets made the first basket of the fourth quarter before Wooster answered with two free throws. Those would be the only points for the Scots in the final period, as Olivet scored the last eight points of the game.
- For the game, the Comets shot a 34.8 field goal percentage (24-of-69) compared to 17.5 percent (10-of-57) for Wooster. Olivet outrebounded the Scots, 50-44, and committed six less turnovers.
- Junior Lily Connelly led Olivet with 14 points. She also had four assists and four steals.
- Freshman Kinsley Hatfield scored 10 points, all in the first half.
- Sophomore Courtney Balazs grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, followed by junior Zoee Zatarga with nine.
- The 14 points by Wooster in the first half is tied for second-fewest points scored by an Olivet opponent since NCAA women's basketball switched to four quarters in 2015-16.
- The 35 total points allowed is tied for the 13th-fewest allowed in a game in school history.
- Today's game marked the second all-time meeting between the Scots and Comets on the basketball court. Olivet also won the previous meeting, 75-43, on December 29, 2006.
- Mia Walked netted a team-best 12 points.
- Alyssa Chritz was next with eight points.
- Chritz pulled down a team-best seven rebounds.
- Olivet resumes its Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association schedule next Wednesday, January 4, with a 7 p.m. game at Adrian College.
