Women’s basketball team loses at Capital, 48-38

BEXLEY, Ohio – The Olivet College women's basketball team was defeated by Capital University, 48-38, tonight at the Capital Center.

- After Olivet made the first basket of the game, Capital scored the next seven points for a five-point lead, 7-2. Olivet answered with a 9-2 run to take an 11-9 lead. Two free throws and a layup for Capital made the score 13-11 to start the second quarter.
- Capital opened the second period with two free throws to go up 15-11. Olivet responded with a 9-2 spurt to go up 20-17 at the 5:26 mark. All nine Olivet points were scored by sophomore Courtney Balazs. Capital scored the next two points with 5:15 showing on the clock. From there, neither team scored a point for the rest of the first half.
- In the third quarter, Capital closed the margin to one point twice. After the second time at 27-26, Olivet scored six straight points to take its largest lead of the game, 33-26, with 53 seconds left in the quarter. A Capital three-pointer made the score 33-29 to begin the final quarter.
- Capital outscored Olivet 19-5 in the fourth quarter for the come-from-behind win.
- Balazs scored a team-leading 14 points.
- Freshman Megan Mauney came off the bench to score six points.
- Freshman Kinsley Hatfield and junior Zoee Zatarga shared game-high honors with 10 rebounds apiece.
- Capital's starters accounted for its 48 points.
- Laney Murphy netted a game-high 15 points.
- Bri O'Connor was next with 14 points, followed by Samaree Perkins with 13.
- Maddi Weiland pulled down a team-best nine rebounds.
- The Comets host Calvin University Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
