Women’s basketball team defeats Mount Mary, 74-46, for first win of season

OLIVET, Mich. – Junior Lily Connelly nearly had a triple double, as she led the Olivet College women's basketball team to a 74-46 win over Mount Mary (Wis.) University today at the Cutler Event Center.

- Connelly finished the game with a team-leading 15 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds.
- Seniors Julia Decker and Rachel Swartz contributed 10 points apiece.
- For the game, Olivet made 31-of-71 (43.7 percent) from the floor, including a 16-of-35 (45.7 percent) in the second half compared to 17-of-60 (28.3 percent) and 7-of-30 (23.3 percent) for the Blue Angels. The Comets also had the edge in total assists, 27 to eight, and rebounds, 57 to 31.
- The first quarter featured four tied scores. The last one was at the buzzer when the Blue Angels made a free throw.
- The Blue Angels took their first lead of the game at 22-21 with 5:51 left in the second quarter. The Comets used a 15-4 run to take a 36-26 halftime lead.
- Olivet outscored Mount Mary 28-3 in the third quarter to gain its largest lead of the game, 59-34, to start the final quarter.
- The Comets stretched their lead to as many as 34 points, 72-38, with 4:44 remaining in the contest. The Blue Angels put eight of the final 10 points on the scoreboard to create the final 74-46 score.
- Skye Giddings led all scorers with 18 points.
- Deja Rivers added 12 points.
- Rivers and Alexus Hatcher each grabbed eight rebounds.
- Olivet is back on the court Sunday when it hosts North Park (Ill.) University. Tip-off from the Cutler Event Center is scheduled for 2 p.m.
