Women’s basketball team loses to Albion 69-45 in season-finale
The Olivet College women’s basketball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Albion College 69-45 this afternoon in its 2011-12 season-finale at Kresge Gymnasium in Albion.
ALBION, Mich. – The Olivet College women's basketball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Albion College 69-45 this afternoon in its 2011-12 season-finale at Kresge Gymnasium in Albion.
The Comets led only for a short time in the first half, 4-2. The Britons tied the game on a layup and took the lead on a 3-pointer. Olivet answered with a basket before Albion stretched its lead to six points, 18-12, at the 11:09 mark. The Comets scored seven of the next nine points to trim their deficit down to one point, 20-19.
The Britons then closed the first half with an 18-5 run to take a 38-24 lead into the locker rooms. Albion scored the first 13 points of the second half to build its largest lead of the game. Olivet did not get any closer than 18 points for the remainder of the game.
Junior SoQuitta DeShazor (Flint/Hamady) was the only Comet in double figures, as she had 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor and 2-of-4 from the free throw line. Junior Brittany Brown (Inkster/John Glenn) was next with seven points. Sophomore Kelsey Campbell (Olivet) dished out seven assists to finish the season with 135, which is a single-season school record.
Patty Rewa led the Britons with 21 points and 13 rebounds.
