Campbell breaks assists record in 64-63 loss at Adrian
Sophomore Kelsey Campbell (Olivet) scored a game-high 21 points but it was not enough, as the Olivet College women’s basketball team lost a heartbreaker to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Adrian College, 64-63, tonight at the Merillat Center in Adrian. In addition, Campbell had six assists to raise her season total to 120, which breaks Olivet’s single-season record. The previous record was 119 by Kris Post during the 1988-89 season.

The Comets shot 50 percent (15-of-30), including a perfect 3-of-3 from behind the arc, to build a six point lead, 34-28, at halftime. Olivet's biggest lead was 15 points at the 7:37 mark. In the second half, the Comets led by nine points, 43-34. The Bulldogs came back with a 17-6 run to take their first lead of the game.
Junior Sydney Radde (Stevensville/Lakeshore) made a layup to put Olivet back ahead, 52-51. The teams continued to exchange baskets before the Comets went ahead by five points, 60-55. Adrian battled back to regain the lead, 62-61. Junior Brittany Brown (Inkster/John Glenn) scored to give the Comets a 63-62 lead.
The Bulldogs made a layup to go up by one, 64-63, with 10 seconds left. Following three timeouts, Olivet committed a turnover as the final buzzer sounded.
For the game, Olivet shot 44.8 percent (26-of-58). Campbell made 7-of-10 baskets and 4-of-5 free throws for her 21 points. Radde joined her in double figures with 12 points. She also grabbed a team-leading seven rebounds.
For Adrian, LaQwana Dockery came off the bench to score 14 points. Amy Van Gessel scored 12 points, while Katie Ross had 10. Senneca Scott pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.
The Comets will host Saint Mary's (Ind.) College Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
