Women’s basketball team loses to No. 4 Calvin, 72-33
The Olivet College women’s basketball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) co-leader Calvin College 72-33 this afternoon at the Van Noord Arena in Grand Rapids. With the win, the Knights, ranked No. 4 in the recent D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, improved its overall record to 9-0, including 4-0 mark against MIAA foes.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Olivet College women's basketball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) co-leader Calvin College 72-33 this afternoon at the Van Noord Arena in Grand Rapids. With the win, the Knights, ranked No. 4 in the recent D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, improved its overall record to 9-0, including 4-0 mark against MIAA foes.
Junior Kaleigh Hill (Niles) led the Comets with 10 points, and junior Sydney Radde (Stevensville/Lakeshore) was next with six. Junior Brittany Brown (Inkster/John Glenn) and sophomore Kelsey Campbell (Olivet) each had five. Brown also grabbed a team-leading six rebounds.
The Knights had 13 different players get in the scoring column. Carissa Verkaik scored 19 points, pulled down eight rebounds, blocked three shots and dished out three assists in 19 minutes. Julia Hilbrands and Ally Wolffis each contributed seven points apiece.
Olivet (1-8, 0-3 MIAA) is back in action next Tuesday, Dec. 20 when it hosts Rochester College at 5 p.m. in the first game of a women's/men's basketball doubleheader. The Comet men will play Finlandia University following the women's game at approximately 7 p.m.
