Women’s basketball team lets lead slip away in 56-49 loss at Trine
The women’s basketball team let a 10-point halftime lead slip away, as Trine rallied to beat the Comets, 56-49.
ANGOLA, Ind. -- The Olivet College women's basketball team let a 10-point halftime lead slip away, as Trine (Ind.) University rallied to beat the Comets, 56-49, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest today at Hershey Hall in Angola, Indiana.
In the first 2 minutes, 29 seconds, Trine had a pair of two-point leads, with the last time being 4-2. Senior Caitlin Thilo (Onondaga/Eaton Rapids) then knocked down a three-pointer to put Olivet ahead 5-4 and it did not trail for the rest of the half. The Comets' 10-point lead, 30-20, at halftime was its largest lead. The Thunder outscored Olivet, 36-19, in the second half for the come-from-behind win.
Thilo was the only Olivet player in double figures with 11 points. Junior Debbie Nikodemski (Rockford) scored six points, grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, blocked two shots, dished out three assists and made three steals in 29 minutes.
For Trine, Liz Gehrig led all scorers with 17 points. Haley Killingbeck contributed 12 points. Danielle Senf pulled down nine rebounds.
The Comets will host Albion College next Wednesday, Feb. 3, at 7:30 p.m.
