GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Olivet College women's basketball team was defeated by Calvin College, 68-34, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) contest today at the Van Noord Arena in Grand Rapids.
The Comets were led by senior Tiffany Thelen (Lansing/Waverly), who scored 10 points on 2-of-3 shooting from the floor and a perfect 6-of-6 shooting from the free throw line. Junior Debbie Nikodemski (Rockford) and senior Stephanie Spehar (South Lyon) were next with five points apiece. Nikodemski, Thelen and junior Alysia Cole (Roseville) each pulled down four rebounds.
For Calvin, Carissa Verkaik led all players with 16 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks. Julia Hilbrands and Jill Thomas scored nine points apiece.
Olivet will return home to face Kalamazoo College next Wednesday, Jan. 12. Tip-off at The Cutler Event Center is 7:30 p.m.
