Women’s basketball team loses to No. 1 Hope, 79-50
The Olivet College women’s basketball team dropped a 79-50 decision to nationally-ranked foe Hope College tonight at the DeVos Fieldhouse in Holland. The Flying Dutch entered the game ranked No. 1 in the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association poll and No. 3 in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll.

Olivet trailed by 27 points, 44-17, at halftime. In the second half, Hope only outscored the Comets by two points, 35-33.
Fourteen Olivet players saw action in the game, and 11 reached the scoring column. Junior Darcell Williams (Muskegon/Reeths-Puffer) led all scorers with 15 points. Senior Gabrielle Federau (Okemos) and junior Kaitlin Oleksyn (Kalamazoo/Parchment) were next with six points apiece. Sophomore Olivia Yarrell (Lansing/Sexton) grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
Thirteen different Hope players scored at least one point, led by Liz Ellis and Carrie Snikkers with 11 points each. Snikkers, Lauren Geers and Philana Greene had six rebounds apiece.
Olivet is back in action next Saturday, Dec. 19, when it hosts Calvin College. Game time is approximately 3 p.m. Prior to the women's game, the Comet men are hosting Finlandia University. The men's game tips-off at 1 p.m.
