The Olivet College women’s basketball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College, 57-39, tonight at Kresge Gymnasium in Albion.
The Olivet College women's basketball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College, 57-39, tonight at Kresge Gymnasium in Albion.
In the first half, Olivet built a six-point lead, 15-9, at the 7:01 mark after sophomore Olivia Yarrell (Lansing/Sexton) made back-to-back baskets. Albion responded with an 18-6 run to take a 25-21 into the locker rooms at halftime. The Comets made the first basket of the second half to make the score 25-23, but they would not get any closer. The Britons extended their lead to as many as 21 points twice in the final five minutes of the game.
Yarrell was the only Olivet player in double figures, as she had 12 points. Senior Gabrielle Federau (Okemos) pulled down a team-leading seven rebounds.
Albion's Melissa Shaw led all scorers with 17 points. Patricia Rewa contributed nine points and game-high eight rebounds.
Olivet returns to the court Saturday at Adrian College. Game time is 3 p.m.
