Women's basketball team beats Wooster, 75-43, Smith becomes all-time leader in three-pointers made
Senior Stephanie Smith (Waldron/Camden Frontier) posted game-high honors in points (21) and rebounds (eight) as the Olivet College women’s basketball team beat the College of Wooster (Ohio), 75-43, this afternoon at the Upton Center in Olivet. In addition, Smith became Olivet’s all-time leader in three-pointers made with 168.
Senior Stephanie Smith (Waldron/Camden Frontier) posted game-high honors in points (21) and rebounds (eight) as the Olivet College women's basketball team beat the College of Wooster (Ohio), 75-43, this afternoon at the Upton Center in Olivet. In addition, Smith became Olivet's all-time leader in three-pointers made with 168. The previous record of 166 was held by Molly Geisen from 1990-94.
The Comets (5-4) scored the first six points of the contest and never looked back. Their biggest lead of the first half was 24 points with 20 seconds left after Smith made back-to-back three-pointers. At halftime, Olivet led 38-15.
In the second half, the Comets extended their lead to as many as 33 points with 12:06 remaining. The closest the Scots (4-5) would get was 26 points with just under five minutes left in the game.
For the game, Olivet shot 50% (27-of-54) from the floor and out-rebounded Wooster, 39-31. Smith made six-of-12 baskets, including five-of-10 three-pointers, and four-of-four free throws for her 21 points. She also dished out three assists and made four steals in 23 minutes. Senior Audrey Graham (Battle Creek/Lakeview) joined her in double figures with 13 points. Junior Amy Brackenwagen (Grand Ledge) had a team-high four assists along with seven rebounds.
Kym Wenz led the Scots with seven points. Four other players had six points a piece. Carly Loehrke grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
The Comets return to action tomorrow when they play a 1 p.m. game at Aquinas College. Wooster will remain in Michigan and play Kalamazoo College tomorrow at 2 p.m.
