Women's basketball team defeats Adrian, 69-62
Senior Audrey Graham (Battle Creek/Lakeview) posted a double-double, 23 points and 10 rebounds, as the Olivet College women’s basketball team defeated Adrian College, 69-62, this afternoon at the Upton Center in Olivet. In addition, senior Stephanie Smith (Waldron/Camden Frontier) became Olivet’s all-time leader in three-pointers attempted with 561.
Senior Audrey Graham (Battle Creek/Lakeview) posted a double-double, 23 points and 10 rebounds, as the Olivet College women's basketball team defeated Adrian College, 69-62, this afternoon at the Upton Center in Olivet. In addition, senior Stephanie Smith (Waldron/Camden Frontier) became Olivet's all-time leader in three-pointers attempted with 561. She broke Molly Geisen's mark of 560 set in 1990-94.
In the first half, the Bulldogs (8-12, 3-10 MIAA) built a nine-point lead, 13-4, at the 13:29 mark. Over the next 3:30, the Comets (10-9, 7-5 MIAA) went on a 9-0 run to tie the game at 13-13. The game was back and forth for the final 11 minutes of the half. Adrian led by one, 29-28, at halftime.
In the first 32 seconds of the second half, Graham canned a jumper, stole the Bulldogs' inbounds pass and made a layup to put Olivet up by three points, 32-29. The Comets did not give up their lead for the rest of the game, leading by as many as 10 points.
Graham made eight-of-17 baskets and seven-of-10 free throws for her 23 points. Smith connected on four baskets, including a pair of three-pointers, and two free throws for 12 points. Junior Amy Brackenwagen (Grand Ledge) scored nine points, pulled down seven rebounds, dished out four assists and made three steals in 38 minutes. Junior Jaime Kowalczyk (Wyandotte/Roosevelt) grabbed eight rebounds as Olivet out-rebounded the Bulldogs, 52-37.
Adrian was led by Nichole Roose, who scored 25 points. Kim Olech had a team-high 10 rebounds.
The Comets continue conference play Wednesday, Feb. 7, when they travel to play Hope College. Tip-off from the DeVos Fieldhouse is 5:30 p.m.
