Five student-athletes named to 2007 All-MIAA basketball teams
Five Olivet College student-athletes have been named to the 2007 All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) basketball teams. On the women’s team, senior Audrey Graham (Battle Creek/Lakeview) is a first-team selection, while junior Amy Brackenwagen (Grand Ledge) and senior Stephanie Smith (Waldron/Camden Frontier) are second-team choices. On the men’s team, juniors Jeff Cooper (Dowagiac) and Brandon Way (Detroit/Southwestern) earned second-team honors.

Graham, a two-time first-team All-MIAA pick, led the Comets and was second in the MIAA in scoring (19.1 ppg). She broke Olivet's single-season record with 168 field goals made. Graham ended her career with 938 points, which is seventh all-time at Olivet. She also ranks among the career leaders in best field goal percentage (4th, 43.5%), free throws made (2nd, 223) and best free throw percentage (1st, 78.5%).
Brackenwagen topped the Comets in assists (4.5 apg) and rebounding (5.7 rpg). Her assist-to-turnover ratio (1.47) tied for first in the MIAA. Entering next season, Brackenwagen has 262 assists and is only 28 shy of breaking the Olivet career record. Smith was second on the team in scoring (11.3 ppg) and led the Comets in three-pointers made (62), attempted (163) and percentage (.380). Her 62 treys were one shy of tying the Olivet single-season record. Smith ends a stellar four-year career as the Comets' all-time leader in three-pointers made (201) and attempted (589). She scored 842 points, which ranks eighth all-time at Olivet.
Way was first on the team in scoring (12.5 ppg), field goals made (113), three-pointers made (48) and steals (40). He and Cooper shared the team lead with 47 assists. Cooper was second in scoring (11.7 ppg) and first in free throws made (84).
Junior Jaime Kowalczyk (Wyandotte/Roosevelt) and freshman Andy Sierminski (Jackson/Lumen Christi) earned coaches' honorable mention honors.
Under the direction of sixth-year Head Coach Deanna Richard, the Olivet women finished the 2006-07 campaign with a 12-12 overall record and tied for fifth in the MIAA with a 9-7 record. The nine MIAA wins were the most in school history for a single-season. Led by third-year Head Coach Kurt Soderberg, the Comet men had a 5-20 overall record and tied for sixth in the MIAA with a 3-11 record.
