Women’s basketball team falls to Kalamazoo, 60-49

In the first half, the Hornets (5-2, 2-0 MIAA) jumped out to a 27-7 lead at the 8:11 mark. The Lady Comets (5-4, 1-2 MIAA) fought back with a 13-3 run to trim the deficit down to 10 points. At halftime, Kalamazoo had a 33-21 lead.
Olivet was able to cut the Hornet lead down to 10 points twice during the first 10 minutes of the second half. The closest that the Comets would get was nine points, 58-49, with 12 seconds remaining in the contest.
In addition to her 22 points, Monette, who was making her first start at Olivet, tallied six rebounds and three steals in 31 minutes of action. She was the only Lady Comet in double figures. Senior Emily Fix (New Buffalo/Comstock Park) and sophomore Stephanie Smith (Waldron/Camden Frontier) had six points apiece.
The Hornets placed three players in double digits with Therese Demres scoring a team-high 17 points. Mary Brown had a double-double with 13 points to go with a game-high 13 rebounds. Lindsay Basler chipped in with 11 points.
Olivet is next in action this Saturday, Dec. 18, when it travels to play Spring Arbor University.
