Women’s Basketball Team Loses to Calvin College, 71-60
The Olivet College women's basketball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe Calvin College, 71-60, tonight at the Upton Center.
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College women's basketball team fell to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association foe Calvin College, 71-60, tonight at the Upton Center.
In the first half, the Lady Comets (7-13, 2-7 MIAA) led by as many as nine points on three occasions with the last time being at 19-10 when senior three-time All-MIAA forward Louisa Grill (Williamston High School) made a jumper. Olivet also held a 29-27 halftime lead. In the second half, the Knights took their first lead of the game at 30-29 when Tricia Dyk made a layup. After a 51-51 tie with 6:44 remaining, Calvin closed the game with a 20-9 run.
Freshman center Amanda Johnston (Mt. Morris/Genesee High School), the MIAA Player of the Week, recorded her second collegiate double-double with a game-high 26 points and 14 rebounds. She was the lone Comet to reach double figures.
Kristen McDonald came off the bench to score 21 points to lead Calvin (13-7, 4-5). Dyk added 13 points and Emily Beard had 12 points and 11 rebounds.
The Comets will next be in action when they host Adrian College on Saturday, Feb. 8 at 3 p.m.
