Lady Comets Open MIAA Play With a 64-53 Loss Against Saint Mary’s (Ind.) College
The Olivet College women's basketball team opened Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play tonight with a 64-53 loss against Saint Mary's College of Indiana at the Upton Center.
OLIVET, MICH. – The Olivet College women's basketball team opened Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play tonight with a 64-53 loss against Saint Mary's College of Indiana at the Upton Center.
After the Lady Comets (5-7, 0-1) took a 12-5 lead, the Belles went on a 15-4 run to take a 21-16 lead with 8:11 left in the first half. Olivet battled back and cut the deficit to one point at 24-23 when junior guard Kim Strange (Ellsworth High School) nailed a three-pointer with 4:42 remaining. Saint Mary's then outscored the Comets, 12-5, for an eight-point lead at halftime. In the second half, the Belles stretched their lead to as many as 14 points.
Sophomore guard Emily Fix (Comstock Park High School) led Olivet with 15 points. Senior forward Louisa Grill (Williamston High School) scored 13 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
Saint Mary's (5-7, 1-0) was led by Katie Boyce, who came off the bench to score 13 points. Shaun Russell and Katie Miller each scored 11 points.
Olivet will next be in action on Saturday, Jan. 11 when it travels to Grand Rapids to play Calvin College at 3 p.m.
