Softball team loses doubleheader at Saint Mary’s
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Olivet College softball team fell to Saint Mary’s (Ind.) College in both games of a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader, 16-0 and 17-2, this afternoon at the Purcell Athletic Fields.

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Olivet College softball team fell to Saint Mary's (Ind.) College in both games of a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader, 16-0 and 17-2, this afternoon at the Purcell Athletic Fields.
- Final Scores: Saint Mary's 16, Olivet 0 (5); Saint Mary's 17, Olivet 2 (5)
- Location: Purcell Athletic Fields; South Bend, Indiana
- Records: Olivet 0-22 overall, 0-14 MIAA; Saint Mary's 9-23 overall, 4-10 MIAA
- The Belles scored 12 runs in the first inning, three runs in the second and one run in the third to post 16-0 run-rule win.
- The Comets were held to two hits – singles by senior Erin Brady and freshman Jessica Brady.
- Saint Mary's totaled 16 hits, as all nine starters had at least one hit and one run. McKenna Myers was 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBI. McKenna Shoupe had two hits and drove in a team-best four runs. Libby Bierbaum threw the complete game to earn the win.
- The Belles pushed across three runs in the first inning before adding six runs in both the second and third innings to go up 15-0. Olivet plated its first run in the fourth when sophomore Summer Smith grounded out to score junior Meredith Morrel. Saint Mary's capped its scoring in the top of fifth. The Comets scored their final run in the bottom of fifth when freshman Madison Milot drew a bases-loaded walk to score freshman Corina Hernandez.
- Olivet finished the game with three hits, all singles by Hernandez, Milot and Morrel.
- Saint Mary's recorded 14 hits. Alexis Rauch went 3-for-3. Bierbaum collected two hits and four RBI. Caitlin Traxler had two hits, three runs and three RBI. Mac Pepper also scored three runs. Traxler was the winning pitcher
- Olivet ends the 2023 season Saturday when it hosts Alma College. First pitch from game one of the twin bill is at 1 p.m. Between games, the Comets will recognize their two seniors who will be playing in their final collegiate softball games.
