Softball team upended in road doubleheader at Baldwin Wallace
BEREA, Ohio – The Olivet College softball team lost 11-1 and 8-5 to Baldwin Wallace (Ohio) University in its final non-conference doubleheader of the season today at the BW Softball Field and inside the Roehm Athletic Complex.

BEREA, Ohio – The Olivet College softball team lost 11-1 and 8-5 to Baldwin Wallace (Ohio) University in its final non-conference doubleheader of the season today at the BW Softball Field and inside the Roehm Athletic Complex.

- The Comets scored a run in the top of first inning. Freshman Corina Hernandez hit a single, stole second base, advanced to third on a ground out and came around to score when the shortstop misplayed sophomore Malaya Shireman's batted ball. The Yellow Jackets answered with three runs in the bottom half of first.
- BW added two runs in the second, three runs in the third and three runs in the fourth to complete the run-rule win.
- At the plate, Olivet had two hits – Hernandez's single and a double by freshman Jessica Brady in the fourth inning. In the circle, Shireman suffered the loss after allowing the 11 runs (eight earned) on 13 hits and three walks over the four innings.
- For the Yellow Jackets, Emily Mau was 4-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI. Lexy Coggins, Alicia Saxton and Steph Mraz each had tallied two hits. Chloe Snyder scored two runs. Hannah Welling earned the pitching win.
- BW sent 12 batters to the plate and scored seven runs in the first inning. The Yellow Jackets manufactured one run in the bottom of fourth inning to go up 8-0.
- The Comets did not go down quietly, as they scored the final five runs of the game. Olivet scored three runs in the fifth inning. Freshman Madison Mervine hit a single and went to second when freshman Violet Porter was hit by a pitch. Both runners advanced a base on junior Maddie Bailey's sacrifice bunt and they came around to score on senior Erin Brady's single. Erin Brady went to third on the throw home to the plate, and later scored when Hernandez's batted ball was thrown away by the second baseman.
- The Comets added their fourth run in the sixth inning. Jessica Brady started the frame with a double and later scored on Shireman's groundout. Olivet capped the scoring in the seventh. Hernandez reached on a throwing error and scampered to third on a double by junior Meredith Morell. After a pitching change, Jessica Brady's ground out scored Hernandez.
- Erin Brady recorded two of the six Comet hits. She also drove in two runs. Other hits were Jessica Brady's and Morell's doubles, and singles by Mervine and Porter. Freshman Madison Milot threw seven innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits and two walks.
- Raegan Thompson was 3-for-4 for BW. Jessica Kasai had two hits and two RBI. Ana LaGuardia also collected two RBI. Taryn Welty picked-up the pitching win, and Hannah Welling earned the save.
- The Comets have this week off for spring semester final exams and are back on the field next Sunday, April 30, at Albion College. Game one of the doubleheader is slated to start at 1 p.m.
