Softball team tripped up by Albion in home doubleheader
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College softball team lost both ends of doubleheader to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex. The Britons won the first 6-0 and came-from-behind to win the nightcap, 6-4.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College softball team lost both ends of doubleheader to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Albion College this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex. The Britons won the first 6-0 and came-from-behind to win the nightcap, 6-4.

- The Britons took advantage of two Comet errors to score a pair of runs in the first inning.
- Albion added another run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.
- Three more Olivet errors led to three runs for the Britons in the sixth inning.
- Junior Erin Brady collected three of the five Olivet hits.
- The other two hits were by freshman Meredith Morell and senior Amber Trudeau.
- Sophomore Katie Lenz was the hard-luck loser in the circle. She gave up the six runs (one earned) on 10 hits over the complete game performance.
- Dylan Cardinale recorded three hits.
- Shanyn Jewell and Chloe Miller each had one hit.
- Six different players scored a run.
- Ashley Pion was the winning pitcher, as she scattered five hits and struck out eight over the seven innings in the circle.
- The Comets took a 3-0 lead with three runs in the top half of the first inning. Sophomore Brielle Broderick laced a single through the right-side of the infield. She stole second base before coming around to score on Lenz's single. Two singles loaded the bases. Freshman Malaya Shireman brought home Lenz and Trudeau with a single into center field.
- The Britons got one run back in the bottom half of the first.
- Olivet extended its lead to 4-1 with a run in the fourth inning. An error and two infield hits filled the bases. Morell hit the ball back to the pitcher, who threw home, but freshman Summer Smith slid in and touched the plate before the ball was caught by the catcher.
- Albion closed the gap to 4-3 with a pair of runs in the last half of the fourth.
- The Britons used a two-out rally to push across the tying and go-ahead runs in the fifth.
- Albion added an insurance run in the sixth before retiring the Comets 1-2-3 in the seventh.
- Olivet out-hit the Britons, 10-9.
- Lenz notched three of the hits from the cleanup spot in the lineup.
- Seven others each had one hit.
- Shireman was the charged with the pitching loss after giving up the six runs on nine hits over five and two-thirds innings.
- Sophomore Emily Keeler recorded the final out.
- Kenadie Baareman and Lizzie Bissett each registered two hits. Baareman's hits were a double and single, while Bissett's hits were a triple and single.
- Five players drove in a run.
- Gabrielle Hirkaway tossed the final five innings to pick-up the win in relief of Pion.
- The Comets host Calvin University for two games next Tuesday, April 19. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
