Softball team falls to Hope, 14-1 and 11-1
HOLLAND, Mich. – The Olivet College softball team was swept by Hope College, 14-1 and 11-1, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader this afternoon at Wolters Stadium.

HOLLAND, Mich. – The Olivet College softball team was swept by Hope College, 14-1 and 11-1, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) doubleheader this afternoon at Wolters Stadium.

Records: Olivet 2-13 overall, 0-6 MIAA; Hope 13-5 overall, 4-0 MIAA
- Olivet manufactured a run in the first inning. Senior Erin Brady led off with a single, went to second on a sacrifice bunt by freshman Summer Smith and came around to score on a double to the right-center field gap by sophomore Katie Lenz.
- The Flying Dutch answered with six runs in their half of the first and never looked back.
- Olivet was held to the two first-inning hits.
- Lenz was the losing pitcher, giving up 14 runs (13 earned) on 19 hits.
- Four players – Grace Henry, Arinn King, Lexi Potapczak and Cayley Ebeling – each had three hits.
- King and Potapczak scored three runs apiece.
- Potapczak hit a double and home run, while driving in five runs.
- Haley Bennett collected three RBI.
- Avery Slancik earned the pitching win, as she allowed the run on two hits over the first four innings.
- The Flying Dutch plated five runs in the second inning and another run in the fourth inning to go up 6-0.
- Olivet scored its run in the bottom half of the fourth inning. Smith hit a leadoff single, advanced to second base on a ground out and crossed the plate on Lenz's double over the right fielder's head.
- Hope capped its scoring with two runs in the sixth and three final runs in the seventh.
- Smith registered two of the five Olivet hits. One of the hits was a double.
- The other two hits were Lenz's RBI-double, a single by Brady and single by freshman Mikayla Hammond.
- Freshman Malaya Shireman was charged with the pitching loss. She allowed the 11 runs on 15 hits over six and two-thirds innings.
- Sophomore Emily Keeler inherited a full count to a batter and threw a change up for a called third strike to end the seventh inning.
- King and Kaelin Callow each recorded three hits. King's hits comprised two doubles and a single, while Callow had three singles.
- Callow drove in four runs.
- Three pitchers combined to throw the seven innings. Maddie Gracin picked-up the win in relief of starter Chloe Haskins.
- Olivet is scheduled to play at Adrian College for a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon, starting at 3 p.m.
