Softball team defeated by Trine and Saint Mary’s
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College softball team hosted Trine (Ind.) University and Saint Mary’s (Ind.) College for a non-conference triangular this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex. The Comets lost 15-0 to Trine and 8-7 to Saint Mary’s.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College softball team hosted Trine (Ind.) University and Saint Mary's (Ind.) College for a non-conference triangular this afternoon at the Cutler Athletic Complex. The Comets lost 15-0 to Trine and 8-7 to Saint Mary's.

- The Thunder scored five runs in the first inning, four runs in the second inning and six runs in the fourth inning for the run-rule victory.
- Olivet was limited to three hits, all singles.
- Senior Paige Poulter, senior Kaylee Clothier and freshman Katie Lenz each had a hit.
- Sophomore Jessica Barnes suffered the pitching loss after allowing nine earned runs on six hits and seven walks over the first inning and one-third.
- The Thunder totaled 15 hits.
- Amanda Prather was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a single, two runs scored and seven RBI.
- Five other players tallied a multi-hit game.
- Lauren Clausen pitched the complete game, three-hitter to earn the win.

- Batting as the visiting team, the Comets led 1-0 in the first inning after Clothier lined an RBI-double to score Poulter.
- The Belles took a 2-1 lead in the second on a two-run home run.
- Olivet re-gained the lead 5-2 when Clothier blasted a three-run home run over the fence in left field in the third inning.
- Saint Mary's got one run back in the bottom half of the fourth.
- The Comets pushed across three runs in the top of the fifth inning to stretch their lead to 7-3. Senior Kassidy Zmikly walked and stole second base. Freshman Sarah Shevenell lined a single up the middle to score Zmikly. Clothier then hit her second home run of the game for the final two runs.
- The Belles plated three runs in the home half of the fifth to make the score 7-6.
- Neither team scored a run in the sixth inning.
- In the bottom of seventh, Saint Mary's pushed across two runs to walk-off with the win.
- Olivet recorded nine hits.
- Clothier was 3-for-3 with a double, two home runs and six RBI. The six RBI ties for the second-most RBI in a single-game in school history.
- Poulter had two hits and scored two runs.
- Shevenell was the losing pitcher after surrendering the eight runs on 14 hits over six and one-third innings.
- Six players tallied a multi-hit game.
- Caitlin Traxler recorded two doubles.
- Makenna Myers had two hits, including a home run.
- McKayla Noecker picked-up the pitching win in relief of starter Libby Bierbaum.
- Olivet welcomes Trine back to the Cutler Athletic Complex next Tuesday, April 20, for a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association doubleheader, starting at 3 p.m.
