Softball team defeats Adrian, 12-8, in second game of MIAA doubleheader
The Olivet College softball team defeated Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Adrian College, 12-8, in the second game of a doubleheader at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. The Comets were leading the game when it was halted in the top of the seventh inning on March 29.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College softball team defeated Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) rival Adrian College, 12-8, in the second game of a doubleheader at the Cutler Athletic Complex in Olivet. The Comets were leading the game when it was halted in the top of the seventh inning on March 29.

Records: Adrian 13-9 overall, 1-1 MIAA; Olivet 12-8 overall, 1-1 MIAA
- Olivet took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The big hit of the inning was a two-run homer by Kaylee Clothier. It was the first collegiate home run for Clothier.
- Adrian then scored five runs in the third inning to go up 5-3.
- In the sixth inning, the Comets answered by sending 13 batters to the plate and scoring nine runs to take a 12-5 lead. Kinslea Blouin hit her team-leading fifth home run of the season during the inning.
- The Bulldogs countered with three runs in the bottom half of the sixth.
- Before the seventh inning started, the umpires stopped the game due to darkness.
- Once play resumed, Olivet was retired 1-2-3 in the top of seventh inning.
- Adrian's first two batters got out on a strikeout and pop-out. The third batter was hit by a pitch before the fourth batter grounded out to end the game.
- At the plate, Olivet had 14 hits.
- Senior Andrea Rico was 3-for-5 with two doubles and two runs.
- Clothier had two hits and two RBI.
- Freshman Karina Marin tallied two hits and three RBI.
- Freshman Danielle Erickson earned the pitching win in relief of junior starting pitcher Taylor Shellenberger. Erickson allowed three runs on five hits, and Shellenberger gave up five runs (four earned) on four hits. Both pitchers tossed three innings.
- Junior Gracie Boyle tossed the seventh inning.
- Krista Lynch registered three of the nine Adrian hits to go along with three RBI.
- Jamie Bell and Natalie Younan each had two hits.
- Younan drove in two runs.
- Emily Baldus was charged with the pitching loss.
- The Comets are on the road tomorrow for a doubleheader at Saint Mary's (Ind.) College. First pitch from game one is slated for 3 p.m.
