Softball team rallies to beat Mount St. Joseph and Stevenson in Sunshine State
The Olivet College softball team rallied to beat Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) University, 11-7, and Stevenson (Md.) University, 13-8, this afternoon at The Spring Games and inside the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex in Leesburg, Florida.

LEESBURG, Fla. – The Olivet College softball team rallied to beat Mount St. Joseph (Ohio) University, 11-7, and Stevenson (Md.) University, 13-8, this afternoon at The Spring Games and inside the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex in Leesburg, Florida.
THE BASICS
Final Score: Olivet 11, Mount St. Joseph 7

Records: Mount St. Joseph 3-2 overall, Olivet 5-2 overall
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lions took a 5-0 lead behind a single tally in the second inning and four runs in third inning.
- The Comets got two runs back in the home half of the third when sophomore Kinslea Blouin hit a two-run home run.
- Mount St. Joseph added another run in the fourth inning to go up 5-2.
- Olivet cut its deficit to one run with a two-run fourth inning. The runs were scored on a two-run homer by freshman Erin Scanlon.
- The Comets took the lead for good when they sent 10 batters to the plate and scored six runs in the last half of the fifth. Senior Konnor Geiger blasted a three-run homer run. Later in the inning, senior Nikole Kern hit an RBI-single to score freshman Kayla Blett, Scanlon scored on a wild pitch and sophomore Courtney Willson lined ripped an RBI-double to score Kern.
- Blouin capped Olivet's scoring with a solo home run to lead off the sixth inning.
- The Lions used a single, stolen base and two ground outs to plate their final run.
FOR THE COMETS
- Willson went 3-for-4 with two doubles from the top spot in the lineup.
- Celebrating her birthday today, Blouin hit the two home runs, drove in three runs and scored three runs.
- Geiger, Kern and Scanlon also recorded two hits apiece.
- Geiger drove in three runs.
- Sophomore Gracie Boyle threw all seven innings to pick-up the win. She yielded four earned runs on nine hits.
FOR THE LIONS
- Four players each had two hits.
- Grace Woodyard hit two doubles.
- Sarah Miller collected two RBI.
- Brianna Kauf started in the circle, and allowed five runs on six hits in four innings. Olivia Burger was charged with the loss after giving up three runs on two hits in one-third inning.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mustangs used a squeeze play and subsequent throwing error to score three unearned runs in the first inning.
- The Comets began their comeback with a two-run third inning. With two runners in scoring position, junior Andrea Rico lined a single through the left side of the infield to score sophomore Payton Watson and advance Willson to third base. Blouin then hit a sacrifice fly to plate Willson.
- Eleven batters came to the plate and Olivet scored six runs in the fifth inning. Rico drove in the first run. Geiger and sophomore Dominique McKillop both hit an RBI-single to score two more runs. Sophomore Haley Harty ripped a two-run single to cap the scoring.
- The Comets pushed across two more runs in the sixth. Blouin scored on a wild pitch and freshman Paige Poulter hit an RBI-single to bring home the second run.
- Olivet ended its scoring with a three-run seventh inning. A sacrifice fly off Blouin's bat brought home the first run, Rico crossed the plate on a wild pitch and Poulter lined an RBI-triple down the right field line.
- Stevenson used six hits to score four runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning.
FOR THE COMETS
- All nine starters had at least one hit, as Olivet banged out 19 total hits.
- Rico and Willson each had three hits.
- Blett, Geiger, McKillop, Poulter and Watson finished with two hits apiece.
- Willson scored three runs.
- Rico earned the pitching win. She gave up four earned runs on 12 hits in six and two-thirds innings. Sophomore Taylor Shellenberger recorded a strikeout for the final out.
FOR THE MUSTANGS
- Four players each had 2-for-4 performances at the plate.
- Tiffany McKee and Erin Stephey scored two runs apiece.
- Jasmyn Ogletree suffered the pitching loss after surrendering eight runs on 12 hits in four and one-third innings.
UP NEXT
- After an off day tomorrow, the Comets play University of Wis.-Stout at 11 a.m. and Southern Maine University at 3 p.m. on Tuesday. The games will be played at the Minneola Athletic Complex.
