Softball team wins two games at Gene Cusic Classic
Backed by dominant, complete game pitching performances by Kelsey Greene and Breanne Harmon, the softball team swept two games today at the Gene Cusic Classic and inside the Cape Coral Sports Complex in Cape Coral, Fla.

CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Backed by dominant, complete game pitching performances by junior Kelsey Greene (Burr Oak) and sophomore Breanne Harmon (Quincy), the Olivet College softball team swept two games today at the Gene Cusic Classic and inside the Cape Coral Sports Complex in Cape Coral, Fla. The Comets shutout Clark (Mass.) University, 6-0, in their first game and then beat Anna Maria (Mass.) College, 10-1, in the second game.
Against Clark, Olivet scored a run in the third inning before pushing across four runs in the fifth inning and one more in the sixth. For the game, the Comets collected six total hits, including two each for junior Brooke Coshow (Niles/Brandywine) and sophomore Lindsey Maas (Pinckney). They also scored two runs apiece, while Maas hit a RBI-triple in the fifth. Other extra base hits were doubles by Coshow and senior Christine Daub (Hudson).
In the circle, Greene scattered three hits, while striking out 10 and walking only two batters in seven innings. She needed 99 pitches to pick-up the complete game victory.
Against Anna Maria, the Comets scored four runs in the second, one in the third, one in the fifth and four more in the sixth to cause the game to end early because of the eight-run mercy rule. Olivet recorded a season-high 11 hits with Daub, senior Jenny Robbins (Fenton), sophomore Ciara Santos (Lansing/Everett) and freshman Terri Hurosky (Nashville/Maple Valley) having two hits apiece.
Ending the game in the sixth inning were a two-run home run by Coshow and two-run double by Santos. Sophomore Breanna Bunker (Charlotte) had a pinch-hit double. Harmon threw only 68 pitches, facing only two batters more than the minimum. She gave up only one base hit, allowed an unearned run, struck out four and walked one.
Tomorrow, Olivet will play Rockford (Ill.) College at 9 a.m. and Regis (Mass.) College at approximately 11 a.m. Both games will also be played at the Cape Coral Sports Complex.
