Softball team swept at Alma, 5-0 and 12-1
The Olivet College softball team lost both games of a doubleheader today at Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) leader Alma College this afternoon at Scots Park in Alma. The Scots shut out the Comets, 5-0, in the first game and then won the nightcap, 12-1.

In the first game, Alma took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run home run by Emily Ross. The Scots added to their lead with three runs in the fourth inning. The Comets had their best chance to score in the seventh inning when the first two batters reached base.
For the game, Olivet was held to four hits. Freshman Lindsey Maas (Pinckney) had the lone extra base hit, a two-out double in the fifth. In the circle, junior Katie Harper (Vassar) was tagged for the loss, allowing five runs (three earned) on nine hits.
In the second game, Alma scored three runs in the first inning and three more in the second for a 6-0 lead. The Comets dented the scoreboard in the bottom half of the second inning when freshman Meghan Case (Vassar) drilled a 2-1 pitch over the fence in left-centerfield. The Scots padded their lead with five runs in the third and one in the fifth.
The Comets had just two hits in the game, Case's home run and infield single by sophomore Cortney Wernette (Remus/Chippewa Valley). Sophomore Rachel Cook (Traverse City/Central) was the losing pitcher, as she gave up six runs (two earned) on seven hits in two innings. Freshman Breanne Harmon (Quincy) threw three innings of relief and surrendered six runs (four earned) on six hits.
Olivet will conclude its season Saturday when it travels to play Hope College. Start time for the first game of the doubleheader at Wolters Stadium is 1 p.m.
