Softball team swept by Grand Valley, 5-0 and 6-2
The Olivet College softball team lost both games of a doubleheader today at NCAA Division II foe Grand Valley State University (GVSU) in Allendale. The Comets (10-2) were shutout in game one, 5-0, and lost game two, 6-2.

The Olivet College softball team lost both games of a doubleheader today at NCAA Division II foe Grand Valley State University (GVSU) in Allendale. The Comets (10-2) were shutout in game one, 5-0, and lost game two, 6-2.
In the first game, the Lakers (11-7) scored a run in the first, third and fifth innings and put the game away with two runs in the sixth inning. The Comets had their best chance to score in the first inning when they had the bases loaded.
Freshman Kacie Rosecrants (Parma/Western) had two hits in four trips to the plate. Olivet's only extra base hit was a double by junior Heather Hinesman (Hudson). In the circle, senior Erica Anderson (Casnovia/Kent City) suffered the loss. She pitched six innings, allowing 12 hits.
In the second game, the Comets tallied their two runs in the top half of the second inning. Freshman Alisha Ridsdale (Laingsburg) led off the inning with a home run. After a strikeout, sophomore Jessica Schmansky (Clarkston/Waterford Our Lady of the Lakes) reached first base on a hit, moved to second base on a passed ball and scored when freshman Kortney Ewing (Nashville/Maple Valley) hit a single through the right side of the infield.
GVSU answered with two runs in its half of the second inning. The Lakers took the lead with two runs in the fourth inning and added two insurance runs in the sixth.
At the plate, junior Katelan Schoen (Climax/Climax-Scotts) was two-for-three. Also collecting a base hit each were Ewing, Ridsdale, Schmansky and freshmen Katie Walker (Lansing/Everett) and Heidi Wear (Hastings/Wayland). Sophomore Kim Green (Portland) pitched six innings, allowing six hits and six runs (three earned).
The Comets are next in action Sunday, March 26, when they host Ohio Wesleyan University in a non-conference doubleheader, beginning at 1 p.m.
