The softball team split a doubleheader with non-league foe Siena Heights University today in Olivet. The Lady Comets (8-2) won the first game, 7-1, and lost the nightcap, 7-1. With the loss in the second game, Olivet snaps its seven-game winning streak.

The softball team split a doubleheader with non-league foe Siena Heights University today in Olivet. The Lady Comets (8-2) won the first game, 7-1, and lost the nightcap, 7-1. With the loss in the second game, Olivet snaps its seven-game winning streak.
In the first game, the Comets tallied two runs in the first inning, four runs in the third inning and closed the scoring with a run in the fourth inning. The first inning runs were a result of two bases loaded walks. In the third inning, Heather Hinesman (Hudson), Jenn Newland (Tekonsha) and Katelan Schoen (Climax-Scotts) drove in a run each. The fourth-inning run came in on a Saints' fielding error.
At the plate, Newland was three-for-three with two doubles and two stolen bases. Senior Lindsey Daniels (Galesburg-Augusta) collected two hits while freshman Jessica Schmansky (Clarkston/Waterford Our Lady of Lakes) scored twice. In the circle, junior Erica Anderson (Casnovia/Kent City) pitched a complete game, four-hitter. She allowed an unearned run and struck out 10 batters. The 10 strikeouts is a single-game career-high for Anderson.
Daniels had a RBI single in the first inning of the second game. Siena Heights (5-9) scored five runs in the third inning and single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. The game was called after five innings because of darkness. For the game, the Comets were limited to three base hits. Junior Carrie Abbott (Bad Axe) was tagged with the loss. She pitched two and one-third innings, allowing five earned runs.
Olivet is next in action tomorrow when it travels for a twinbill at NCAA Division II foe Hillsdale College beginning at 3:30 p.m.
