Softball team falls twice at Sun West Tournament
The Olivet College dropped two games today at the Sun West Tournament hosted by Chapman University in Orange, California. The Lady Comets fell to Ohio Northern University, 4-1, and Concordia (Calif.) University, 9-1.

The Olivet College dropped two games today at the Sun West Tournament hosted by Chapman University in Orange, California. The Lady Comets fell to Ohio Northern University, 4-1, and Concordia (Calif.) University, 9-1.
Olivet scored its only run against Ohio Northern when junior centerfielder Jill Shufelt (Millington High School) walked with the bases loaded in the fourth inning. Senior catcher Theresa Flowers (Waterford Kettering High School) scored the run. Shufelt also collected two base hits in the game. Junior Jenn Newland (Tekonsha High School) pitched seven solid innings, scattering eight base hits and four runs (two earned).
Against Concordia, senior first baseman Kim Horanburg (Grand Ledge High School) led off the second inning with a double to centerfield. Senior right fielder Taneisha Pointer (Lansing Everett High School) then ripped a two-out double to score Horanburg. Newland led the Comets at the plate with a pair of bunt singles. Sophomore Erica Anderson (Casnovia/Kent City High School) picked-up the loss after tossing five and one-third innings and allowing seven hits and six runs (four earned).
Olivet will play these two teams again tomorrow, March 4. The Comets play Ohio Northern at 8:30 a.m., followed by a game against Concordia.
