UOlivet drops three-set match to Concordia Chicago in home-opener

OLIVET, Mich. – The University of Olivet men's volleyball team suffered a three-set loss to Concordia University Chicago (Ill.) in its home-opening match inside the Cutler Event Center.
THE BASICS
- Final Score: Concordia Chicago defeated Olivet 25-17, 25-18, 25-12

- Records: Olivet 0-3 overall, Concordia Chicago 2-4 overall
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first set, the Comets scored the first point on a kill by freshman Silas Martin. The Cougars answered with four straight points and did not relinquish their lead for the rest of the set. For the set, Concordia Chicago had 17 kills and posted a .484 attack percentage compared to nine kills and .103 attack percentage for Olivet.
- The Cougars jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the second set. The Comets battled back and tied the score at 15-15. Concordia Chicago scored the next five points to take control of the set, winning it by a 25-18 score.
- The start of the third set was back-and-forth. Olivet evened the score twice. After the second time at 4-4, the Cougars used two kills and two Comet attack errors to take an 8-4 lead. Olivet closed the gap to three points on three occasions. Following the final time at 11-8, Concordia Chicago ended the set on a 14-4 run.
FOR THE COMETS
- Martin finished the match with a team-leading 11 kills.
- Sophomore Ke'Shon Johnson was next with six kills.
- Sophomore Amarion Lawson had four blocks (one solo and three assisted).
- sophomore Andy Hok recorded 19 set assists.
UP NEXT
- The Comets rest tonight and head to Pennsylvania tomorrow for two matches at the Grove City College Triangular. Olivet faces the host Wolverines at 2 p.m., followed by a match against Mt. Aloysius (Pa.) College.
