Men’s Volleyball: Olivet starts MCVL play with four-set setback to Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The University of Olivet men's volleyball team began the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) portion of its 2024 schedule with a four-set loss to University of Mount Union (Ohio) inside the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex. The Purple Raiders won the first, third and fourth sets.
- Final Score: Mount Union defeated Olivet 25-11, 23-25, 25-16, 25-21

- In the first set, the Purple Raiders posted a .542 attack percentage to cruise to a 25-11 win.
- In the second set, the Comets seized a pair of three-point leads. After the second time at 14-11, Mount Union went on a 3-0 run to take the lead back. The teams traded points to create eight more tied scores Following the eighth one at 22-22, Olivet used a kill and Purple Raider attack error to go up by two points. Mount Union saved one set point before a kill by senior Quinn Dickerson ended the set in the Comets' favor, 25-23.
- Besides two early tied scores, the Purple Raiders led the third set from start-to-finish.
- Mount Union raced out to a 5-1 lead in the fourth set. Olivet battled back to level the score at 12-12. The Purple Raiders scored the next two points and did not trail for the rest of the set.
- Senior Quinn Dickerson topped Olivet with 15 kills.
- Senior Everett Haynes was next with nine kills, followed by senior Ethan Valente with six.
- Senior Kai Hartman dished out 35 set assists.
- Senior Deontay Thomas recorded a match-high 14 digs.
- Olivet makes the hour drive to Berea, Ohio, to play Baldwin Wallace University tomorrow afternoon, starting at 1 p.m.
