Thomas tabbed MCVL Offensive Player of the Week
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Olivet College sophomore Deontay Thomas has been named the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) Defensive Player of the Week. He is being honored for the second time this season after being selected the MCVL Offensive Player of the Week on January 25.

Thomas averaged 2.30 kills and 3.10 digs per set in the Comets' final three matches of the 2022 season last week. In a three-set loss to Trine (Ind.) University, he played libero for the entire match and totaled nine digs. In a four-set win over Wabash (Ind.) College, Thomas started at libero before an injury to a teammate forced him to play all six rotations. He finished the match with 15 digs and 13 kills. He had only two errors on 21 attempts for a .524 attack percentage, which ranks third all-time at Olivet for a single match. In a three-set season-finale loss to Fontbonne (Mo.) University, Thomas played the entire match and recorded 10 kills and seven digs.
Thomas ended the 2022 season with 168 total kills, which is the fifth-most in school history for a season. His .187 attack percentage is fourth best. After two seasons at Olivet, Thomas is already ranked among the career leaders, as he is fifth with 293 kills and 892 attack attempts.
