Hartman and Haynes lead men’s volleyball team to four-set win over Wabash
OLIVET, Mich. – Sophomores Kai Hartman and Everett Haynes helped the Olivet College men’s volleyball team defeat Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) rival Wabash (Ind.) College in four sets tonight inside the Cutler Event Center. The Comets won the first set 25-18 before the Little Giants took set two, 25-20. Olivet won the next two sets, 25-22 and 25-21.

OLIVET, Mich. – Sophomores Kai Hartman and Everett Haynes helped the Olivet College men's volleyball team defeat Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) rival Wabash (Ind.) College in four sets tonight inside the Cutler Event Center. The Comets won the first set 25-18 before the Little Giants took set two, 25-20. Olivet won the next two sets, 25-22 and 25-21.

- The Comets raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first set and never looked back.
- In the second set, the Little Giants went ahead by five points, 14-9. Olivet battled back with four straight points to close the gap to 14-13. The teams traded points to create three more one-point gaps. After the last time at 19-18, Wabash ended the set on a 6-2 run to win the set 25-20.
- The early stages of the third set were back-and-forth. With the Little Giants holding a 6-4 advantage, the Comets had three kills and a service aces to go up 8-6. Wabash battled back and with a 4-2 scoring spurt to go up 12-10. The Little Giants maintained their lead until Olivet used a 3-0 mini run to turn a 16-15 deficit into an 18-16 lead. Wabash countered with a 3-0 run to take a one-point lead before another 3-0 run made the score 21-19 in favor of the Comets. Olivet did not give up the lead for the rest of the set.
- The Comets had a wire-to-wire lead in the fourth set.
- Hartman broke Olivet's single-match record with 26 kills.
- Haynes achieved a new school single-match record with 56 set assists.
- Hartman's and Haynes' totals helped break the team single-match record with 64 kills and 60 set assists.
- Sophomore Deontay Thomas slammed down 13 kills and his .524 attack percentage ranks third all-time for a match in Olivet history.
- Hartman led all players with 18 digs, which is tied for third-most in school history for a match.
- Jackson Leeper and Ricky Sessions each had 12 kills.
- Luke Davis finished with 11 kills and 11 digs.
- Will Beikes recorded 42 set assists.
- Olivet ends the 2022 season tomorrow when it hosts Fontbonne (Mo.) University. First serve is at 1 p.m.
