Men’s volleyball team loses two MCVL matches at Trine
ANGOLA, Ind. – The Olivet College men’s volleyball team lost two Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) matches to Trine (Ind.) University today at Hershey Hall. The Thunder won the first match 25-20, 25-13, 25-13, and the second match 25-18, 25-19, 25-20.

ANGOLA, Ind. – The Olivet College men's volleyball team lost two Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League (MCVL) matches to Trine (Ind.) University today at Hershey Hall. The Thunder won the first match 25-20, 25-13, 25-13, and the second match 25-18, 25-19, 25-20.

- Trine led the first set 4-1 before a 4-1 Comet run leveled the score at 5-5. The teams traded points, resulting in 10 tied scores. Following the last one at 16-16, the Thunder went on a 6-1 run for a 22-17 lead. Trine went on to win the set 25-20.
- The Thunder raced out to a 7-1 lead in the second set and never looked back. Trine's 12-point cushion at the end of the set was its largest advantage.
- Olivet built a 3-1 lead in the third set. The Thunder erased that lead with a 9-1 run to go ahead 10-4. The Comets trimmed their deficit to four points at 15-11 but they would not get any closer for the rest of the set.
- Freshman Kai Hartman topped Olivet with seven kills.
- Freshman Everett Haynes tallied a team-best in set assists (15) and digs (13).
- Sophomore Dakota Galeazzi finished with nine digs.
- Dan Boren recorded seven kills and posted a .462 attack percentage.
- Parker Beale was next with six kills.
- Matt Stillman had a match-best six blocks (one solo and five assisted).
- Ethan Howard dished out 26 set assists.
- Hunter Haas collected 14 digs.
- The first set saw Trine lead by a 10-3 score. The Comets cut their deficit down to four points, 11-7, but they would not able to draw any closer for the remainder of the set.
- Olivet took a five-point lead, 10-5, in the second set. The Thunder answered with a 10-2 spurt for a 15-12 lead. The Comets tied the set at 16-16. Five straight Trine points gave it control of the set.
- In the third set, Olivet had an early four-point advantage, 8-4. The Comets maintained their lead until the Thunder used a 3-0 run to turn an 11-10 deficit into a 13-11 lead. Olivet battled back to even the score on four occasions. After the last time at 16-16, Trine had back-to-back kills to go ahead 18-16. The Thunder did not relinquish their lead for the rest of the set.
- Senior Dan Hayes slammed down a team-best nine kills. He had only one attack error on 15 attempts for a .533 hitting percentage.
- Freshman Deontay Thomas had six kills.
- Haynes recorded 17 set assists.
- Galeazzi collected 10 digs.
- Beale led all players with 11 kills.
- Howard topped Trine with 34 set assists.
- Haas finished with 12 digs.
- The Comets have their bye weekend next week, and return to the court on Saturday, March 13, at Wittenberg (Ohio) University. The first of two matches starts at 1 p.m.
