Men’s volleyball falls to Baldwin Wallace in two matches
BEREA, Ohio – The Olivet College men’s volleyball team fell to Baldwin Wallace University in a pair of Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League matches this morning at the Ursprung Gymnasium. After being swept in the first match (25-10, 25-15, 25-18), the Comets lost the second match in five sets (24-26, 25-18, 25-13, 20-25, 15-12).

- The Yellow Jackets led from start-to-finish in the first and second sets.
- The Comets were leading the third set 6-5. BW then went on a 6-1 run to go up 11-7. Olivet closed the gap to a point, 12-11, before the Yellow Jackets scored the next two points. The Comets could not get any closer for the remainder of the set.
- Freshman Kai Hartman slammed down a team-best seven kills.
- Senior Dan Hayes added five kills.
- Freshman Everett Haynes dished out 18 set assists.
- Sophomore libero Dakota Galeazzi recorded a team-high eight digs.
- Michael Beard and Nik Irelan finished with 11 and 10 kills, respectively.
- Brandon Long collected 20 set assists.
- Joe Meyer had eight digs.
- Early in the first set, BW had a pair of three-point leads. After the last time at 6-3, the Comets went on a 5-1 run to gain an 8-7 lead. The teams traded points to create three tied scores. Following a 14-14 score, three Yellow Jacket errors put Olivet ahead. The Comets maintained that lead until BW saved two set points to tie the set at 24-24. A kill by Hayes and a Yellow Jacket attack error handed the set to Olivet.
- BW built an advantage to start the second set. Olivet came back to take a two-point lead twice. Following the final time, the Yellow Jackets used an 11-2 run to turn a 16-14 deficit into a 25-18 set win.
- In the third set, BW never trailed.
- The Yellow Jackets scored the first four points of the fourth set before four straight Comet points leveled the score. After an exchange of points, Olivet went up by four points, 15-11. The Comets did not relinquish the lead for the rest of the set.
- In the deciding set, Olivet went ahead by four points, 10-6. BW fought back to tie the set at 12-12. Yellow Jacket kills were wrapped-up around a Comet attack error for the winning points.
- Freshman Deontay Thomas tallied a team-best 16 kills, followed by Hayes and Hartman with nine and eight, respectively.
- Haynes recorded 38 set assists.
- Galeazzi and freshman Will Mensching each tallied 10 digs.
- Ireland topped all players with 17 kills, followed by Beard with 16.
- Aaric Gossett had 12 kills.
- Long finished with 45 set assists.
- Meyer recorded a match-best 18 digs.
- Olivet is off until next Sunday, February 14, when it hosts University of Mount Union (Ohio). The first of two matches against the Purple Raiders gets under way at 1 p.m.
