FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College sophomore Hunter Hillard has been selected the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Track Athlete of the Week.
Hillard finished in the third-place in the 10,000-meter run at the Margaret Simmons Invitational, hosted by Murray State (Ky.) University. His time, 33:13.70, ranked only behind a runner from Marian (Ind.) University, an NAIA school, and a runner form the host school.
"Hunter has been having a breakout sophomore year and has been wanting to race the 10K since last year," said Olivet head coach Karen Lutzke. "He ran a big personal best in the 800-meter leg of our MIAA winning distance medley relay indoors and he has been carrying that confidence with him into the outdoor season. The support of his teammates during the 10K helped Hunter run each lap according to his race plan. Going forward, all of these different race experiences will allow him to develop as an athlete. It is always exciting to see someone who puts in the work achieve their goals."
Hillard and the Comets are back in action Friday when they host the Olivet Quad Meet. Events get under way at 3 p.m.
