Indoor track and field student-athletes compete at last chance meets
OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College indoor track and field team sent a select group of student-athletes to two different last chance meets. Yesterday and today, five Comes competed at the Wartburg College Final Qualifier in Waverly, Iowa. Today, two Comets participated in the Ohio Northern University Polar Bear Final Qualifier in Ada, Ohio.

OLIVET, Mich. – The Olivet College indoor track and field team sent a select group of student-athletes to two different last chance meets. Yesterday and today, five Comes competed at the Wartburg College Final Qualifier in Waverly, Iowa. Today, two Comets participated in the Ohio Northern University Polar Bear Final Qualifier in Ada, Ohio.
- At Wartburg on Friday night, the men's distance medley relay team of junior Jordon Brown, sophomore Hayden Germain, senior Kyle McDowell and junior Chase Mendham crushed the school record with a time of 10:10.54. The previous record was 10:39.11.
- At Ohio Northern, senior Lillian Albaugh posted the top mark in the shot put with a season-best performance at 43 feet, 1-1/2 inches.
- At Wartburg yesterday, freshman Emily Norkowski totaled 2,429 points in the pentathlon. Her best event was the 60-meter hurdles, finishing with third-fastest time at 9.88 seconds (735 points). Norkowski's other results were 4 feet, 5-1/2 inches (470 points) in the high jump; 24 feet, 3-3/4 inches (361 points) in the shot put; 14 feet, 4-1/2 inches (398 points) in the long jump and 2:49.85 (465 points) in the 800-meter run. She is only the second female in school history to compete in an indoor pentathlon. Today, Norkowski ran the 60-meter hurdles in 9.79 seconds.
- At Ohio Northern, senior Byron Pearce placed ninth of 17 competitors in the weight throw (49 feet, 4-1/2 inches).
- At Wartburg, McDowell completed the 400-meter dash in 50.90 seconds, and Germain ran the 800-meter run in 1:59.16.
- Also, at Wartburg, Brown finished third in the long jump (22 feet, 1 inch).
- The Comets open their outdoor schedule Friday and Saturday, March 25-26, at the Murray State (Ky.) University / Margaret Simmons Invitational.
