Men’s track and field team finishes fifth at MIAA Field Day
ALMA, Mich. – The Olivet College men’s track and field team finished in fifth-place at the 2021 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Field Day, hosted by Alma College. The Comets totaled 102 points.

ALMA, Mich. – The Olivet College men's track and field team finished in fifth-place at the 2021 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Field Day, hosted by Alma College. The Comets totaled 102 points.
- The 4x400-meter relay team of senior Tyler Peck, freshman Hayden Germain, sophomore Jordon Brown and junior Kyle McDowell captured the MIAA title with a time of 3:20.76.
- The 4x100-meter relay team of freshman Charles Miller, Brown, Peck and sophomore William Reed clocked-in with the second-fastest time at 42.51 seconds, which also breaks the school record by 7/100th of a second.
- Brown led a 1-2-4 Comet finish in the 400-meter dash. His winning time was 48.73 seconds, followed by McDowell in 48.90 seconds and Peck in 50.02 seconds. All three times were personal-bests.
- In the 110-meter high hurdles, sophomore Jordon Butler placed sixth with a time of 16.21 seconds. Sophomore John C Downey was eighth in 17.54 seconds.
- Butler ran to a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 59.12 seconds.
- In the 800-meter run, Germain was fifth with a time of 1:59.74.
- Reed finished seventh in the 100-meter dash at 11.43 seconds, followed by Miller in eighth-place at 11.56 seconds.
- Reed placed seventh in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.71 seconds.
- Senior Jaden Costa finished seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal-best time of 10:19.83.
- Sophomore Chase Mendham had the eighth-fastest time in the 1,500-meter run at 4:13.27. The time was also a season-best for him.
- In the field events, Butler was fifth in the javelin with a 127 feet, 8 inch toss.

- Olivet now has won the 4x400-meter relay at the last two MIAA outdoor championships (2019, 2021) and last three MIAA indoor championships (2019, 2020, 2021).
- The Comets' 102 points is the most in school history at the MIAA Field Day. The previous high was 93 points in 2018.
- The fifth-place finish is the best for Olivet since 2007 when it also placed fifth. The Comets won five straight MIAA outdoor titles from 1908-12, as well as have second-, third- and fourth-place finishes during their history.
- With the school-record in the 4x100-meter relay, Peck has now ran a leg on the school-record 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800 relays.
- A select group of Olivet student-athletes will compete at last chance meets over the next few weeks, with hopes of qualifying for the 2021 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
