Men’s track and field team tied for third-place at MIAA Field Day
ALMA, Mich. – The Olivet College men’s track and field team is tied for third-place after the first day of the 2021 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Field Day, hosted by Alma College. The Comets have 36 points, which is one point behind second-place Albion College. Trine (Ind.) University sits first with 54 points.

ALMA, Mich. – The Olivet College men's track and field team is tied for third-place after the first day of the 2021 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Field Day, hosted by Alma College. The Comets have 36 points, which is one point behind second-place Albion College. Trine (Ind.) University sits first with 54 points.
- Sophomore Jordon Brown captured the MIAA title in the long jump. His winning mark of 23 feet, 6 inches broke the school record by less than an inch.
- Also in the long jump, sophomore Jordon Butler finished third at 22 feet, 2-1/4 inches.
- Sophomore Denver Orlando finished second in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 13 feet, 5-1/4 inches.
- Senior Jacob Smith took second in the shot put, with a 48 feet, 11-3/4 inch toss.
- Also in the shot put, junior Byron Pearce posted a personal-best mark of 41 feet, 8 inches.
- Junior Bradley Hawkins scored fifth-place points in the hammer throw with a 148 feet, 8 inch toss.
- Butler and sophomore John C Downey are in tomorrow's finals of the 110-meter high hurdles. They were sixth- (16.27) and seventh-fastest (17.43) in the preliminaries.
- A trio of Comets have advanced tomorrow's 400-meter dash finals. Brown had the top preliminary time at 49.87 seconds. Junior Kyle McDowell was third-fastest at 50.34 seconds, followed by senior Tyler Peck in fifth at 51.31 seconds.
- Sophomore William Reed and freshman Charles Miller had the fourth-fastest (11.14) and eighth-fastest (11.32) preliminary times to secure a spot in the finals of the 100-meter dash.
- Freshman Hayden Germain qualified for tomorrow's 800-meter run finals with the fifth-fastest preliminary time at 1:59.00.
- Butler also landed a spot in 400-meter hurdle final after recording the fifth-fastest preliminary time at 59.40 seconds.
- Reed snagged the last qualifying spot for the 200-meter dash final, as he was eight-quickest in a season-best time of 22.83 seconds.
- Day two of the MIAA Field Day gets under way tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. with field events, followed by finals in the running events at 1:30 p.m.
