FREELAND, Mich. – Olivet College's 4x400-meter relay team of junior Tyler Chavalia, senior Noah Bailey, freshman Jordon Brown and sophomore Kyle McDowell has been selected the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Track Athlete of the Week.
With a time of 3:20.72, the quartet broke the school record in the relay at the Grand Valley State University Mike Lints Alumni Open. Since the track was oversized, the converted time of 3:23.94 ranks No. 1 in the MIAA and No. 9 among "A" relays on the 2020 NCAA Division III performance list. The previous school record was 3:26.00 by Bailey, McDowell, Tyler Peck and Chris Womack at the 2019 MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
"Our 4x400-meter relay team continues to get better each meet," said Olivet head coach Karen Lutzke. "After just missing qualifying for outdoor nationals by one spot last year, they are excited and determined to qualify this year."
The Comets are back in action Friday and Saturday at the Hillsdale College "Wide Track Classic."
