INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Olivet College senior Connor Bauserman has advanced to compete in the 800-meter run Friday at the 2017 NCAA Division III National Indoor Track & Field Championships. The championships will take place at the Res Rec Center in Naperville, Illinois, with North Central College serving as the official host.
Bauserman advanced to the national championships by virtue of posting a time of 1:54.24 on February 18 at the Hillsdale College "Tune-up". The time ranks him 12th among the 15 official entries in the event. The preliminaries of the race will take place Friday at 3:20 p.m. CT. The top two finishers in each heat and then the next best four times will advance to the finals on Saturday at 3:25 p.m. CT.
Bauserman is seeking to be the second NCAA Indoor Track & Field All-American (top eight finish) in school history. The other was Jalen Weaver in 2015. Ironically, Weaver was seeded 12th entering the prelims of the 800-meter run and earned All-American honors with a sixth-place finish.
In addition, Bauserman has been named to the 2016-17 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA DIII Indoor All-Great Lakes Region team. To earn this honor, an athlete must either be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in the region according to final TFRRS data or be part of a top-3 relay team.
The two-time Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association champion in the 800, Bauserman is also now a back-to-back USTFCCCA All-Great Lakes Region selection.
