The Comet men posted two first-place finishes. Freshman James Williams (Battle Creek/Central) won the 100-meter dash (:11.18), while freshman Mike Martin (Caledonia/Wayland) took first in the 200-meter dash (:22.66). Freshman David Ray (Lansing) was third in the 110-meter high hurdles (:16.04). The 4x100-meter relay quartet of Martin, Ray, Williams and freshman Jesse Holmes (Springport) finished in second-place (:43.99).
In field events, senior Brandon Kimble (Kentwood) was second in the long jump (20'0.25") and third in the high jump (6'4"). Other third-place finishes were by freshman James Kelly, Jr. (Westland/John Glenn) in the discus (130'7") and senior Nick Wolf (Olivet) in the pole vault (10'11.75").
The Olivet won had the most success in the running events. Freshman Brittany Marshall (Canton, Ga./Woodstock) was fourth in the 800-meter run (2:38.45) and sixth in the 1,500-meter run (5:37.41). Sophomore Sarah Caldwell (Bronson) finished in fourth-place in the 400-meter run with a school-record time of 1:02.33. The old record was 1:02.40 by Emilee Bowers in 1998.
