Men’s tennis team rallies to beat Trine, 5-4

MARSHALL, Mich. – The Olivet College men's tennis team won a thrilling 5-4 match over Trine University today at the Marshall High School Tennis Courts.

Records: Olivet 2-1 overall, Trine 0-1 overall
- The Comets got off to fast start by virtue of winning 2-of-3 doubles flights. The Thunder won three of the first four singles matches to finish to go ahead 4-3 in the team score.
- The last two singles flights to finish were at the No. 1 and No. 3 position. Olivet came-from-behind to win both on match-tiebreakers to pull out the 5-4 come-from-behind win.
- Freshman Jack Hadley and sophomore Sam Vondra were the first doubles match to finish, as they won 8-3 at the No. 2 slot.
- At No. 1 doubles, freshman Gabe Hand and junior Benjamin Morrow earned a 7-3 win in the tiebreaker to win the pro-set, 8-7.
- Hadley claimed a 6-1, 6-4 win at the No. 5 singles position.
- At No. 1 singles, Hand lost the first set 6-2 and was down 4-1 in the second set. He won the final five games of the second set for a 6-4 win. Hand never trailed in the match-tiebreaker, winning it 10-5.
- At No. 2 singles, Morrow used a 7-3 win in the tiebreaker to win the first set, 7-6. He fell in the second set, 6-1, before posting a 10-7 victory the match-tiebreaker.
- The Comets wrap-up their fall schedule Saturday, Sept. 26, when they play at Adrian College. First serve is at 12 p.m.
