UOlivet men and women finish sixth at MIAA Swimming & Diving Championships

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The University of Olivet men's and women's swimming teams placed at the 2025 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Championships inside the Venema Aquatic Center. The Comet women finished the four-day meet with 223 points, while the Comet men had 35 points.
FOR THE WOMEN
- Each of Olivet's six swimmers made it back to the evening finals in at least one event.
- Freshman Morgan Heitman was 11th in the 200-yard butterfly (2:54.08) and 14th in the 100-yard butterfly (1:18.55). Both times were personal bests.
- Senior Mya Kinnunen finished 13th in 200-yard backstroke (2:23.68), 15th in the 200-yard individual medley (2:29.39) and 16th in the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.22). The 200 IM time was a personal best, while her prelim time in the 100 back (1:06.75) was a season best.
- Junior Kelsee Lawson placed eighth in the 200-yard butterfly and 13th in the 100-yard butterfly. Her time in the 200 fly (2:32.97) was a personal pest, while her time in the prelims of the 100 fly (1:08.58) was a season best.
- Sophomore Sophia Spahr was ninth in the 1,650-yard freestyle (19:18.41), and 10th in both the 400-yard individual medley and 200-yard backstroke (2:17.88). All three times were personal bests, with the time in the 400 IM ranking ninth in UOlivet history.
- Senior Bridgette Shroll finished eighth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:39.27), 12th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.32) and 14th in the 500-yard freestyle (5:29.41). Her prelim times in all three events – 2:27.08 in the 200 breast, 5:27.38 in the 500 free and 1:09.44 in the 100 breast – were season bests.
- Freshman Bethany Stowell placed ninth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:16.72), and 13th in both the 200-yard individual medley (2:23.32) and 100-yard backstroke (1:03.93). The time in the 200 back was a personal best.
FOR THE MEN
- Olivet's three swimmers advanced to the evening finals in at least one event.
- Junior Matthew Brown was 15th in the 200-yard freestyle and 16th in the 500-yard freestyle (5:16.61). His final time in the 200 (1:54.98) and prelim time in the 500 (5:12.56) were season bests.
- Senior Treyton Gabrielson finished 10th in both the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:23.18) and 200-yard butterfly (2:00.04), and 13th in the 500-yard freestyle (4:56.95). The 1,650 and 200 times were personal bests, and 500 time was a season best time.
- Freshman Erick Horne placed 11th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.04) and 13th in the 200-yard breaststroke. The 100 time was a personal best, while his prelim time in the 200 (2:26.94) was a personal best.
